" Marvelous eating fresh or dried.... The Brown Turkey variety is selected for winter hardiness and fruit quality.... Zones 5-9 "
ZONE 5!!! I was thrilled. I took a chance and risked the $15.00 investment. (They cost $16.95 now.) It arrived looking something like this.
I kept the fig tree in a large pot and moved it into my partially heated garage for the last two winters where the temp rarely falls below 25- 28 degrees.
This spring, Daniel and I moved the tree to a sheltered spot in the yard. It is covered with baby figs now and I am dreaming of fresh figs with olive oil and goat cheese. We have our fingers crossed that it will survive the winter. (I plan to wrap the tree this fall before the temps plunge to 10 degrees. That will help insure it's longevity.)
When out in my gardens, I often think about my grandfather and the Eden he lovingly created. He died when I was ten.
Thank you Grandpa George.
