So... above is a picture of a shelf in my green house. I have many vegetable and flower seeds already percolating in their organic soil bed sets. From tomatoes to broccoli, leeks to eggplant and zinnias to foxglove, my garden is already starting to grow. If you haven't planted any of your seeds, now is the time to start many of them. Johnny's Seeds has a wonderful website that carries much more than a sales list of Maine grown seed. One of the resources I like to use is their planting guide. Go to http://www.johnnnyseeds.com/e-PDGSeedStart.aspx . Be sure to put in your last frost date at the top to calculate when to plant what. I live in Falmouth Maine so my agricultural zone is 5b. That means that my official last frost date is May 15th. (This zone was changed last year due to global climate change. Previously, we were "zone 5a".) My cabbage, kale, onions, cauliflower and more will be ready to plant in my garden under a row cover in about a month. At the same time, I will plant seeds such as sugar snaps peas, carrots, fennel, and more.
What are you growing now and what sort of apparatus have you set up in which to start your seeds? Questions about cold frames or green houses? Please share them.
